28 arrested in clampdown on extortionists targeting PPV operators in Corporate Area

Seven men were taken into custody on suspicion of extortion, breaches of the Main Roads Act, among other breaches, in continuation of efforts to combat extortion among Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) operators across the country,

The men were arrested as part of Operation Transportation Streamline on Friday, November 3, involving operatives from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime (CTOC), as well as the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), in the Parade area of downtown Kingston, Cross Roads and Half-Way Tree.

The men, whose identities have not been revealed, are said to be undergoing further intelligence checks.

This brings the total number of persons charged for these offences to 28 since the launch of Operation Transportation Streamline.

The Ministry of Science, Energy Telecommunications and Transport is again reminding citizens to share information on these illicit activities, so that the country can have a safer, more secure, public transportation system.
