Striding into the new year with a bang, SAINT International supermodel Tami Williams dazzles in the just-dropped Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2024 collection.
Lensed last month in France’s City of Lights, the Jamaican top model—who strutted the runway for Saab’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection at Paris Fashion Week back in September—was called upon again by the Lebanese-born couturier to grace his new 1970s-inspired glam collection titled ‘Perfectly Marvelous’.
His 58-piece pre-fall womenswear wardrobe, Saab explained, pays homage to late legendary ‘Vogue‘ editor Diana Vreeland, and the vaunted decade of yore.
“There’s a magic about that period, and not just because of liberation, there were also the flares, the prints, the shoes,” he recently told American Vogue writer Tina Issac-Goize. “I loved that period because I lived it, but also because I opened my eyes to the world during that time, and in the end, it’s always present in everything I do.”
Saab’s pre-fall collection lookbook, co-starring a quartet of models with Williams among them, features his familiar feminine contours that burst with strong colour, vibrant material and inspired contemporary details. There are classic silhouettes in soft neutral beige wools and cool sculpted décolleté in magenta and nude accentuate emblematic silk gowns in dramatic a-symmetries. Abstracted monograms appear as embroidered cuff sleeves and puff shoulder illusions while contrasting stitches trace the hemlines of black tailored suits and skirts.
For the SAINT star, it’s an honour to continue a long-running association with the celebrated womenswear designer who she first worked with years earlier when she glided the catwalk of his Couture Spring 2018 collection.
“Mr. Saab is a fashion genius and being able to work consistently as a face for the label, whether on the Parisian runways or in his collection lookbooks is not something I take lightly,” Williams told Our Today. “Working with the entire Elie Saab team these past five years has been a fantastic experience for me, and it surely doesn’t hurt that it’s in Paris, one of my favourite cities in the world,” she added.
The 60-year-old Saab was elevated to global prominence in 2002 when actress Halle Berry wore a sheer-topped gown with embroidered detail and a full skirt that he designed, to attend the 2002 Academy Awards ceremony where she made her historic Oscar win for her acclaimed portrayal in the drama ‘Monster’s Ball‘.
“Halle Berry made the name Elie Saab more popular … She managed to really put the name Elie Saab on the international market,” Saab told Australian Vogue in 2019.
The designer started his ready-to-wear line in Milan in 1998 and was the first non-Italian designer to become a member of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, the previous year.
Celebrities who have worn the Saab label on their backs include Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie, Celine Dion, Nicole Kidman and Christina Aguilera.
