The man who disarmed a policeman and shot his colleague has been arrested and the service firearm recovered.
Constable Tarequie Wright, along with his colleague Constable Akeem Allen, were conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Maxfield and Balmoral avenues in Kingston on January 9, when a man disarmed Allen and used the service firearm to shoot Wright in his hand and leg. The man escaped with the policeman’s service weapon.
Wright was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) by the same motorist whose documents was being examined during the traffic stop.

Acting on information, a police team went to premises in Richmond Park late yesterday, where they saw the man fitting the description of the policeman’s assailant. He was accosted and during a tussle, the weapon belonging to the policeman fell. He was subsequently detained and the gun seized.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed pending charges, is believed to be a patient of the Bellevue Hospital, after an appointment card was also found in his possession.
He is expected to be charged soon.
