Model and runway etiquette coach Suana Callum is using her passion for modelling to provide others with the opportunity to fulfil their dream in modeling with the launch of her very own modelling school in Jamaica.

The first of its kind in Jamaica, the Suana Callum School of Modeling & Etiquette is geared towards nurturing confidence, knowledge and etiquette in the fashion world and beyond.

“It’s always been a dream of mine, it’s something that I have always wanted to do just to give people the opportunity that a lot of people don’t have. We don’t have any type of limit, we don’t have any age restrictions, height restrictions. A lot of these modelling agencies if you are not 5″9 or 5″10, they don’t want you. So we are not an agency. We teach you what you need to know to go into the world of modelling. Not only modelling but aspiring professionals,” Callum said.

The young model shared that her personal experience from being rejected in modelling due to her height is what propelled her to start the modelling school.

” I, myself, have been turned away from modelling agencies because I am 5′ 6 1/2″ and they are like you need to be 5′ 9″, 5′ 11″ you can’t join and I know a lot of persons who reached out to me saying their dreams are over, so I know what they are going through. This is me giving other people, men and women, boys and girls, an opportunity to be a model. It is something anyone can do,” she explained.

The Kingston-based modelling school was established in December 2023, but was officially launched on social media in February 2024.

“It’s not just about modelling, it goes beyond just teaching modeling. We offer a variety of courses-photography courses, brand development, pageant training, image rejuvenation and stuff like that. I had to carefully plan to launch in 2024 because I wanted to aim for perfection, nothing less than that. I got the years and years back but stuff like this cost money and didn’t want it to come off as tacky or cheap, I didn’t want it to be considered as an agency, because we are not an agency, so I am thrilled to be on this journey,” Callum added.

Persons interested in enrolling in the Suana Callum School of Modeling & Etiquette are also provided with the opportunity to access courses online. Additional courses include public speaking, confidence boosting, etiquette skills, grooming/ makeup and social media management.
