In a show of integrity, Janeek Brown, former Jamaican 100m hurdle athlete and former girlfriend of American sprinter, Sha’Carri Richardson, joined podcaster Kareem Bwoyatingz to speak her truth on the couple’s former relationship.

Brown, who stressed that her presence on the podcast was to inspire others to be their true selves, shared that for a long time she identified as a homosexual, noting that it was her relationship with the American sprinter that helped her ‘come out’.

Speaking candidly about their past relationship, Brown shared that she and Richardson met at an awards show and, at the time, were 21 and 19 respectively.

The former sprinter went on to note that their relationship, which took off during the pandemic, was extremely toxic, involving mental, verbal and physical abuse from both parties, contrary to what the American sprinter initially shared.

“We been toxic. We start out dat way, cuz we start out young as f***,” she started.

“We were both abusive, mentally, verbally, physically, everything and if I’m going be on this and keeping it real as f***, we been abusive through most of this relationship. There’s people who [have] seen that and people who know that,” she continued.

The two-year relationship, which ended in February of this year, according to Brown, was no secret to those in track and field which, the 2019 NCAA champion acknowledged is home to many homosexuals. Despite the prevalence of homosexuals in Jamaican track and field, she noted that homophobia is still very much the culture.

Although admitting to Richardson’s claims of abuse, the athlete, who also addressed her ex-girlfriend’s claim of theft, said she never stole from the Texas native.

Describing both herself and Richardson as “young and dumb”, Brown explained that she would not return to the toxic relationship, dubbing it a lesson for her.

“I would not go back in that situation…cuz this was major growth for me, honestly, you know. It open up to all a dat dis, public speaking and all a dat stuf… I would not, mi learn me lesson, is moving on to the next now, on to the next lesson, next step, higher heights, higher level,” she explained.

Brown, who prior to the interview was unaware of the American sprinter’s latest viral post where she defends her in an Instagram live, says it could be a possible attempt at damage control.

“I never seen the live enuh, but, it might be damage control or it might just be she waan back the killa. Dem love me enuh…” Brown said.

Richardson earlier this month made public her former relationship with a Jamaican female athlete via an Instagram story post, then went on to reveal the ex-girlfriend’s identity, Janeek Brown.

Brown, who described Richardson’s actions as malicious and calculated, also shared that she was threatened by the sprinter who was working alongside “multiple culprits” to witness her downfall.
