Junior Shadow Minister of Citizen Security and Productivity Jouvaughnie Byfield, has condemned the brutal killing of firefighter Corporal Gary Samuels and Barrington Clarke in Free Hill, St Mary on Sunday.

Junior Shadow Minister of Citizen Security & Productivity and Byfield, who’s councillor for the Gayle Division, in St Mary, said the incident in the usually peaceful area, has left the community grieving and in shock.

Expressing his “deep sorrow” over the tragedy, Byfield extended condolences to the victims’ loved ones, emphasising that no family should have to face such a devastating loss and no community should live in fear.

The well-being and safety of residents, he said, must be prioritised, and all efforts should focus on ensuring justice is served swiftly.

Byfield urged law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible “for this senseless act to justice”. He stressed the importance of sending a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in the community.

In addition to urging law enforcement action, Byfield called on the residents of Free Hill and surrounding areas to cooperate with authorities. Information from the community, he noted, could be crucial in helping bring closure to the grieving families and ensuring that Free Hill remains a safe and peaceful place.

“We must work together, as a community, to support the investigation and ensure the safety of all residents. Any information, no matter how small, could help bring justice and peace to the affected families,” Byfield added.
