Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel teased his new song Good Like Jesus and expressed confusion over the disapproving reaction from some of his listeners.

Kartel took to his Instagram to express his frustration with those taking issue with the subject matter of his newest track, stating that he has always made music that straddles the line of religion and sex before, for example, his track Ever Blessed.

“Top of the morning Gaza nation. Dah one yah a nuh fi unuh; this a fi the bad mind people dem,” he said. “Unuh nuh have nut’n fi do than come on people page and chat rubbish? What is the difference between mi new song Good Like Jesus and Ever Bless? There is no difference,” the artiste argued.

“If you nuh wah hear mi talk about God and Jesus, go over to the next artiste page weh a talk about devil. The new Kartel, mi nah guh diss unuh yuh know… mi a guh just block unuh,” he further advised fans.

One commenter wrote, “The song sucks, that’s the difference.”

Another wrote: “This man was ever in his feelings. This a unuh artiste?”

Some other fans are concerned with Kartel’s recent inability to take criticism, one noting: “Fans are allowed to express their opinions as well.”

“Kartel need fi give we a break, and do himself a favour, because him a flop out himself,” said another.

“This is blasphemy, bro!” another wrote.

Some fans dislike the song because they believe it doesn’t meet the same quality as his previous work. Others have criticised Kartel’s bold lyrics, accusing the artiste of being tone-deaf and blasphemous.

Vybz Kartel’s 13-year stint in prison means he has not made music as a free man or interacted with the Internet as a free man all that time. As a result, some fans may not be fully embracing his current music, while others are open to giving him the chance to acclimate and settle into the expectations of his fans, both old and new.

Good Like Jesus may not have been the second release as a free man that his fans were expecting thematically or lyrically.
