After a thrilling performance at Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street concert on New Year’s Eve, dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper is now baring her soul on her latest single called Soul Cry

The track shows a different side to the often provocative artiste, proving that she’s daring enough to strip down and put her vulnerabilities on display, figuratively.

Soul Cry was created from an experience Lisa Hyper says she had. Therefore, the process was smooth sailing when it came to writing, composing and recording the song.

“I didn’t have to process my thoughts to write the lyrics because Soul Cry was created from an experience so all I had to do was go in the voicing box and record the experience that literally made my soul cry,” stated Lisa Hyper.

“Why not a song like Soul Cry?” the former Gaza artiste boldly proclaimed when asked about the single. “Some music are created from inspiration, imagination and experience. Soul Cry was created from an experience and I made a promise to God that I will give him praise, not only in my room but in some of my songs and Soul Cry is one of them.”

Released on January 17, Soul Cry was produced by Omar Murphy of Foreigners Invasion based in England, Levels_LVL, real name Donald Barnett, and R0twist, real name Romario Henry, of Levels To Life Productions out of New Jersey. Lisa Hyper expressed her appreciation for their professionalism and work ethic during the making of Soul Cry.

“Working with Levels was exactly what I expected. The respect was there, the connection was there, the understanding was there, the creativity was there. I had no problem at all,” she said.

This commitment to putting out quality music is enough to make her want to continue working with Levels To Life Productions. So much so that they have several other projects planned for future releases.

“Yes, we have more projects together. I like how he [Levels] takes his work and the opportunity of working with me very serious,” Lisa Hyper continued.

The release of Soul Cry comes at an opportune time after Lisa Hyper delivered a spectacular performance at the recent Freedom Street concert in honour of Vybz Kartel being freed from prison after 13 years of incarceration. Her former Gaza Empire boss was pleased to share the stage with her again and the feeling was mutual.

“It was a great feeling sharing the stage with the Teacha again. I was overwhelmed, joyful, grateful and elated.”

With several hit collaborations between her and Vybz Kartel already under her belt, Lisa Hyper said that there’s definitely more to come. “Most definitely there will be new music with us together. He spoke to me about it already as well so my fans can look out for that too,” Lisa Hyper said.
