California-based artificial intelligence research company OpenAI officially launched ChatGPT Gov, a specialised AI solution for US government agencies.

Built within Microsoft Azure’s government cloud, this ChatGPT will have heightened security to shield sensitive data.

ChatGPT Gov is a more efficient and accurate version of ChatGPT Enterprise with a stricter level of compliance meant to satisfy government-specific needs.

OpenAI disclosed that it has over 90,000 users by government employees who have used ChatGPT to draft memos, summarise documents, and for application building. The new platform promises to improve these functions, coupling them with greater data security.

This was expected to see its first rollout within a month, but concerns linger. Some critics have brought up potential biases in artificial intelligence and privacy threats. OpenAI counters that very strict policies exist, and they look to mitigate against these concerns.

“It’s a super competitive industry, and this is showing that it’s competitive globally, not just within the US,” OpenAI chief product officer Kevin Weil said. “We’re committed to moving really quickly here. We want to stay ahead.”
