A Caribbean Airlines (CAL) ATR 72-600 flying from Tobago to Trinidad experienced an engine failure on Monday night while completing its final flight for the day.
The aircraft operating as BW 1541 was travelling over the Caroni Bird Sanctuary when the number one engine failed prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing and instruct passengers to brace themselves.
The aircraft successfully landed at approximately 10 pm and was later removed for service and inspection.
“All required operational procedures are being followed regarding passengers and crews,” the airline said.
It has been reported that 68 passengers and four crew members were onboard.
In a video captured by a passenger, aboard the aircraft, flight attendants can be heard repeatedly telling passengers to “brace” and to keep their heads down and hands overhead as the plane landed at the Piarco International Airport.
No reason has been given for the cause of the emergency landing that took place, but media reports highlighted that last Wednesday, a similar aircraft was inspected by the crew at the ANR Robinson International Airport in Tobago after it was discovered that one of the wheels on the front landing gear was missing.
That plane was reportedly taken out of service.
