Some have not been so keen to anoint Harry Kane as the world’s top striker, but now, having scored a record 100 goals for German football giant Bayern Munich in just 104 games, perhaps he merits a closer look.
The ex-Spurs legend wanted to win trophies, and after carrying the London team for years, signed with Bayern in 2023. Since the move, he has been a prolific goal scorer and has now won a Bundesliga trophy.
At 32, many say Kane has improved his game, coming in from a deeper position; defenders find it difficult to track him on the pitch.
This new record sees him move ahead of both Erling Haaland (100 goals in 105 games for Manchester City ) and Cristiano Ronaldo (100 goals in 105 games for Real Madrid). Kane hit the new milestone with Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Werder Bremen on Friday (September 26), where he netted twice.
For more than ten years, Kane has displayed a high level of performance matched by consistency. He is the consummate professional, and many top managers cite him as a joy to work with.
Former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen said Kane made a mistake in leaving the EPL to play in the Bundesliga. Kane’s results since he made the move speak for themselves and besides, it’s a bit hypocritical of Owen considering he made a move to Real Madrid.
Kane has been a top performer for both club and country and is one of the best strikers in world football-no question.
There is talk of him returning to Spurs at the end of next season, but he may only be prepared to do so if the North London club are positioned to play Champions League.
It would be great to see him return to Spurs and break Alan Shearer’s EPL goal-scoring record ( 260 goals in 441 appearances).
At 33, can he return to his spiritual home and again make history? Why not. He will still be a top striker for years to come.
Speaking about getting to 10 goals in 104 games for Bayern Munich, Kane said: “ To reach 100 goals for any club is an amazing achievement and with a club like Bayern Munich, it is extra special.
“This is a great achievement I can look back on when I am a bit older, but for now it’s about enjoying it.”
