Crystal Palace FC have been brilliant so far this season and have now gone 18 matches unbeaten.

Today (September 27), the Eagles snatched a well-deserved 2-1 victory against EPL table leaders Liverpool at Selhurst Park.

The South Londoners piled on the pressure from the opening whistle, and it wasn’t long before they got their reward with Ismalia Sarr scoring at close range in the ninth minute.

Crystal Palace dominated the first half and should have been up 3-0 if not for the heroics of Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson.

Liverpool put in a better performance in the second half and clawed back a goal in the 87th minute with Federico Chiesa’s strike.  The game looked settled and done with, but Eddie Nketiah found the net in the 98th minute to have Palace fans rocking in the stands.

How Liverpool must regret not signing Marc Guehi earlier this summer. He put in a captain’s performance today, and the 25-year-old is a player to watch this season.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has got the club performing at a high level, and with the momentum the South Londoners are gathering, they should have a berth for European football next season. Can they keep this up after Christmas? We shall see.

Liverpool paid the price for not defending set pieces today, and it did not escape Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s attention.

After the match, he said: “ It was a difficult first half. They did well and deserved to be 1-0 up. We were lucky it was only 1-0.

“Second half was the opposite. It took a while before we scored, and we did with a few minutes left. But from a second set piece, they won the game. If you want to compete, you need a very positive balance with set pieces, even more in this league.

“It was one of our biggest strengths last season, now we have conceded two against Newcastle and two here. But this league is more and more about set pieces.”

Manchester United now languish in 14th place after going down 3-1 to Brentford today. The Red Devils have lost half of the six games played so far this EPL season. Since he has been in charge at Manchester United, Ruben Amorim has won just 33 points out of 34 games in the EPL, a dismal record.

Today was another horror story with United going down 2-0 inside of 20 minutes. Igor Thiago scored twice. The writing was on the wall as Manchester United failed to get going, and its inability to get shots on target continued..

Benjamin Seiko managed to peg back Brentford to 2-1 in the 26th minute.

Bruno Fernandes failed to convert a penalty in the second half, compounding United’s side’s misery. Mathias Jensen scored the third for Brentford in the dying minutes of the game.

The home side thoroughly deserved the win and bullied Manchester United.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, Manchester United has had six managers; none have been able to attain the heights he did. Manchester United is not even a top ten side. It now finds itself performing as a mid-table team. How the mighty have fallen.

The pressure is mounting on Amorim, with some analysts speculating he may be gone by Christmas.

The Manchester United manager addressed this after the game, saying: “I am never concerned about my job-I am not that kind of guy. It is not my decision. I will do my best and I will every minute I am here.

“We can play better, and we need to play better. It’s like ups and downs. When you win, you feel that everything, the momentum is here. When you lose, you go back to the same place and you fight again for one win that can help you create the momentum.”

Football commentator Micah Richards mused, “I think because Ruben Amorim is being so stubborn in what he is trying to do, it could be the undoing of him down the line. We can talk about the owners backing him, but ultimately, it is just not working.”
