Man sought in ex-girlfriend’s killing surrenders to St Andrew police

A 29-year-old man wanted by the police for the alleged chopping-murder of his former partner and the wounding of her teen daughter surrendered to the St Andrew North police on Monday.
The suspect, Ricardo ‘Crow’ McCarty, turned himself in at the Lawrence Tavern Police Station, accompanied by a relative. He was later transferred to the Constant Spring Police Station, where he is being detained.
Head of the division, Superintendent Randy Sweeney, confirmed the surrender. He welcomed the development and urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement by providing information on wanted individuals, illegal firearms, and criminal gangs.
McCarty was featured on the police’s Wanted Wednesday campaign on December 3.
He was wanted in connection with the October 21 killing of Shoshana Shaw and the wounding of her teenage daughter during a violent attack at their home in Rose Hill, St Andrew.
Investigators say McCarty, Shaw’s former partner, had been on the run since the incident.
Shaw was buried on November 30.
Her daughter, who sustained a chop wound to the head during the attack, has since been treated and released from the hospital.
Police say Shaw was repeatedly chopped about the upper body and ran back inside her house, calling for help. Her daughter reportedly came to her assistance and was struck in the head with the machete, causing a profusely bleeding wound.
Shaw’s body was later found partially naked along a riverbed.
McCarty had been listed among several men wanted by the St Andrew North Police Division for serious crimes.
Investigations into the murder and wounding continue.
Meanwhile, the St Andrew North Police have listed several men as wanted for murder and are urging them to turn themselves in at the Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch or the nearest police station.
Superintendent Sweeney is appealing to residents to share information on wanted individuals, illegal firearms and criminal gangs, noting that public support remains critical in the fight against violent crime.

- Kenroy Willis, otherwise called “Papa,” of Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew, wanted for murder and listed as a person of interest in several other shootings and murders
- Tevin Harris, otherwise called “Ratty,” of 100 Lane, Kingston 19, and 51 Bond Street, Kingston 14
