United Oil & Gas, which is prospecting for oil offshore Jamaica, has just released the first episode of On the Rocks, an internal technical podcast aimed at providing shareholders and stakeholders with deeper insight into the geological evidence underpinning the company’s offshore exploration activities.

The release of this episode follows the recent commencement of offshore survey operations using the R/V Gyre on the Walton Morant Licence, which is a 22,400km2 offshore exploration licence, located to the south of  Jamaica.

This first episode features United’s Business Technical Manager, Paul Ryan and Head of Business Development, Donal Meehan, who discuss the technical evidence supporting the presence of a working petroleum system offshore Jamaica and explain the geological rationale behind the ongoing work programme.

Topics discussed include:

  • Onshore hydrocarbon evidence, including historic wells, live oil seeps and thermogenic oil samples
  • Geological continuity between onshore and offshore basins
  • Repeated satellite-detected potential oil slick anomalies offshore aligned with seismic features
  • Identified fluid migration pathways, seabed anomalies and shallow seismic amplitude responses
  • The role of piston coring in physically testing and validating this body of evidence

The discussion explains how the Surface Geochemical Exploration (SGE) programme is a targeted through non-drilling, early-stage scientific survey, aimed at assessing the offshore petroleum potential of the Walton Morant Licence in Jamaica. This SGE programme could materially reduce exploration risk by confirming key elements of a working petroleum system.

The podcast provides context around United’s technical work as offshore operations progress. United’s SGE survey offshore Jamaica has 3 stages: seabed mapping, heat flow measurements, and drop core sampling for analysis. The episode is available to view here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui9krmLFXp4

United intends to release additional On the Rocks episodes at key technical and operational milestones during the offshore work programme. Further episodes will be shared via United’s YouTube channel, with notifications available for subscribers who enable them.
