A 27-year-old Jamaican national has been sentenced to more than two years in a United States federal prison for his role in a lottery and sweepstakes fraud scheme that targeted elderly victims.

Deeno Roberto Jackson was sentenced on January 28, 2026, by a US District Judge in Tucson, Arizona, to 27 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

According to the US Department of Justice website, Jackson was part of a scheme that defrauded elderly victims by falsely claiming they had won prizes in lotteries or sweepstakes. Victims were told they had to pay fees or taxes to receive their winnings, a claim officials stressed is not how legitimate lotteries operate, as fees and taxes are paid after winnings are received.

Jackson allegedly used fake sweepstakes, health care, tech support and government impostor schemes to steal seniors’ savings, adding that one Arizona victim in this case lost more than US$480-thousand.

Jackson is said to have “preyed on the trust and good faith of the elderly population and even encouraged victims of fraud to report incidents to help authorities identify patterns and stop offenders.

Investigators said members of the conspiracy falsely claimed to be representatives of the US federal government and instructed victims to purchase gift cards and deposit money into bank accounts controlled by Jackson and others.

In addition to his prison sentence, Jackson was ordered to pay US$74,530 in restitution to multiple victims.
