The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has moved swiftly to remove an unauthorised barrier that was erected on its Long Bay Beach property in Negril.

The public beach at the north end of Negril’s famous 7-mile beach. The move was taken to restore full public access to the public beach.

Confirming that it did not install the fence, within one hour of being notified of its presence, the UDC took decisive action to have the fence removed.

The Corporation says the unauthorised construction of fencing is regrettable, saying it remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring Jamaicans enjoy the country’s natural assets.

The UDC commits to acting promptly and decisively in upholding that mandate and to reinforcing a culture where beaches under its management remain open, accessible and welcoming to the public.
