Anyone with type 4C hair knows all the struggles they can face when taking care of it. Royal Strands Ja is an online store with products dedicated to assisting people with 4C hair and enhancing their hair care journey.

These products include hair wraps and formulae cultivated from scratch, that can give hair body and growth while moisturising and ensuring length retention. The formulae use all-natural ingredients such as castor oil and coconut oil.

Royal Strands Ja began in 2018, selling hair wraps on the grounds of the University of Technology campus.

In 2020, during the pandemic in 2020, Royal Strands Ja founder Shannell Bailey, who has lived through the struggles of caring for 4C hair, learned how to chemically combine ingredients from one of her friends at the University of the West Indies. She decided to experiment with different products and formulas to create the perfect mixes for type 4C hair.

“Specifically I wanted to use natural products, especially those that are familiar to us that we knew our grandparents to use, I use those, peppermint oils, tea tree oils and so on to create products for hair growth and hair care,” said Bailey.
