All around the world people will gather to pay homage and celebrate the birth of Bob Marley, the man who brought reggae music to the forefront of the international music scene.

Born on February 6, 1945 in Nine Mile St Ann, Marley was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and musician whose music was heavily influenced by his Rastafarian beliefs. He rose to international fame in the 1970s and became a symbol of Jamaica and its culture, spreading reggae music to the masses.

Through his music, he also spread the message of unity, love, and peace. Some of his most famous and well-known songs include: One Love, No Woman No Cry, Jamming, Redemption Song and Three Little Birds.

Marley passed away on May 11, 1981 at the age of 36 years old. But to this day he remains a beloved figure in Jamaica and around the world, and his music continues to inspire and bring people together.

His birthday has since been seen as a special day for all of his fans who come together and celebrate the life and legacy of the king of reggae.

To celebrate what would have been his 78th birthday, the Ministry of Entertainment in collaboration with the Bob Marley Foundation will host a free concert ‘Musical tribute Bob’, at Emancipation park at 7pm. Artiste such as Julian Marley, the son of the reggae king, Capelton and Gyptian are expected to perform.
