The accident and emergency department at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine is now fully operational after being relocated due to severe flooding over the weekend.

A tropical wave moved across the country last Friday, through Saturday, bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

The hospital was forced to enter an emergency mode due to the severe weather conditions, forcing hospital operations to be scaled back.

The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) has confirmed that the hospital is back in full operation.

“Spanish Town Hospital’s comprehensive range of services, including specialized clinics, outpatient care, and surgical procedures, have now been restored. The Spanish Town Hospital remains committed to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to the people of St Catherine and its environs,” SERHA said.

It was also noted that the Jamaica/Cuba Eye Care Programme is also back in full operation at St Joseph’s Hospital.
