Anya Schnoor

After five years of exemplary service, Anya Schnoor will retire from the Board of Scotia Group Jamaica Limited (SGJL), effective March 4, 2026.

In light of her new substantive role as Scotiabank’s Executive Vice President, Global Insurance, Anya has made the decision to retire from the board in order to fully dedicate her focus on leading the development and execution of the Bank’s Global Insurance strategy—a key growth driver for the organisation.

Anya Schnoor is a senior Caribbean banking executive with more than two decades of leadership experience in financial services, including retail banking, corporate banking, wealth management, insurance operations, regional governance and digital transformation. She has overseen strategic direction, regulatory engagement and performance across multiple jurisdictions.

Anya joined the Board of Directors in November 2020 and assumed the role of Chair in December 2022. Throughout her tenure, Anya’s clear strategic vision and steady leadership helped to position the company for long-term, sustainable growth. Her commitment, insight and determination will leave a lasting legacy.

In a farewell statement on her retirement, Anya Schnoor said, “It was a great privilege to have worked with the esteemed Board of Directors and Management team. I started my career with Scotiabank here in Jamaica and have been proud that the first home for Scotiabank outside of North America continues to set the bar for financial performance and good corporate governance in the local market. I have the utmost confidence that it will continue to do so for many decades to come.”

The Board of Directors, management and staff of Scotiabank express sincere gratitude to Anya for her exceptional stewardship, strategic insight and commitment during her tenure as Chair. Her leadership has played an important role in advocating for continued investment in the Bank’s core promise of becoming our clients most trusted financial services provider and supporting continued growth.

While stepping away from the Board of SGJL, Anya will continue to play a significant role in advancing the SGJL’s strategic priorities through her oversight of Insurance globally.

Vernon Douglas

Upon Anya’s retirement, the Board of Directors intends to appoint Vernon Douglas as Chair of SGJL. Vernon has been a Director of SGJL since December 2022 and was most recently Chair of The Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica Limited (BNSJ). Vernon is a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) with over 20 years of experience in financial leadership, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), operations and business transformation gained in several countries across the Caribbean, Central America and Europe. Skilled in tackling a diverse array of business opportunities, he has worked in Telecoms, Energy, Retail and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) sectors. Vernon is currently a member of the executive and CFO at JPS, Jamaica’s leading energy company.

Commenting on his upcoming appointment, Vernon Douglas stated, “It will be my distinct honour to serve as Chair of the Board of SGJL. I extend my sincere appreciation to Anya for her exceptional leadership and dedicated service over the past five years. I look forward to collaborating closely with my fellow Directors and the wider Scotiabank team as we continue to deliver strong value for our shareholders and clients, while contributing meaningfully to Jamaica’s continued growth and development.”
