The Agro-Investment Corporation (Agro-Invest) is mobilising emergency response teams across its agro parks and production zones following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which caused widespread damage to agricultural infrastructure across several parishes on Tuesday.

CEO Vivion Scully stated that the corporation is “fully engaged in rapid assessment and recovery efforts to ensure that farmers and investors can return to production as quickly as possible.”

So far, reports indicate varying levels of impact to crops, buildings, greenhouses, and farm roads in parishes such as St Elizabeth, St Ann, Clarendon, St Catherine, and Manchester. Agro-Invest’s technical teams, in collaboration with the National Irrigation Commission (NIC) and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), are conducting damage assessments and developing targeted recovery plans for each park.

“Our focus right now is on restoring operations, supporting our farmers with critical inputs, and rebuilding smarter with more climate-resilient systems,” Scully outlined.

The investment promotion and facilitation arm of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining will be working closely with the ministry, private sector partners, and international donors to implement a 90-day recovery and resilience plan aimed at restoring productive capacity across the nine agro parks and 15 production zones.

Agro-Invest encourages all farmers and tenants to stay in contact with their respective park managers for ongoing updates and assistance.
