Carlos Alcaraz will not defend his French Open title next month, as the Spanish star continues to battle a wrist injury.
The world number two has been sidelined since hurting his right wrist during his opening match in Barcelona. After further medical tests, Alcaraz has withdrawn from both the Italian Open and French Open.
The setback comes after a stellar start to the year, which included his first Australian Open title. Alcaraz had been hoping to carry that momentum into the clay court season, where he has often been at his best.
His absence could have a major impact on the rankings, with rival Jannik Sinner now in prime position to widen the gap at the top. It also gives Sinner a golden chance to complete his own career Grand Slam, with Roland Garros the only major title still missing from his collection.
