Carlos Alcaraz just smashed another record, this time off the court.
The tennis star’s racket from his 2023 Wimbledon win has become the most expensive ever sold at auction, pulling in $173,000.
The sale, which wrapped up Sunday night, dethroned Rafael Nadal’s previous record-setting French Open racket that sold for $157K. According to reports, the racket used by Alcaraz was photo-matched to 10 matches, including his unforgettable Wimbledon showdown against Novak Djokovic, a five-set marathon that ended with the then 20-year-old lifting his first Wimbledon trophy and second Grand Slam title.
The buyer hasn’t been revealed, but whoever snagged it clearly knows they’ve got a piece of tennis history in their hands. And with Alcaraz turning just 22 in May and already sitting atop the global rankings, that price tag might look like a bargain in a few years.
It’s been a stellar season for the young Spaniard. Just last month, he added another U.S. Open title to his resume after defeating Jannik Sinner, making it his eighth singles title of the year.
