Defending champion Jannik Sinner has officially reached the Wimbledon finals after ending Novak Djokovic’s latest attempt to secure a record 25th Grand Slam singles title.

The world number one produced a near-flawless performance to defeat Djokovic for the second year in a row at the same point of the tournament, denying the Serbian star a chance to match Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles.

Sinner kept Djokovic under pressure throughout the contest, giving him just one break point opportunity midway through the third set. The 39-year-old’s chance was quickly erased with an ace, as Sinner went on to complete a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

The win gives the four-time Grand Slam champion his 99th major match victory and makes him the first Italian player to reach multiple Wimbledon men’s singles finals. He will now face Alexander Zverev.

For Djokovic, the pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam title continues, as he looks to move ahead of Margaret Court and become the sole owner of the most major singles titles.
