As Head of Operations at Dream Entertainment Limited, Macheri Samuels is the driving force behind the seamless execution of one of the Caribbean’s biggest entertainment festivals. While she’s known for bringing Dream Wknd to life behind the scenes, there’s much more to her story than event logistics. Here are five things you may not know about her:
1. Her name has a musical origin
Macheri’s name wasn’t randomly chosen; it was inspired by Stevie Wonder’s classic My Cherie Amour. Her father loved the song and chose the name because ma chérie means “my darling” in French. Family members still tease that, as his first child, she would have been named Macheri regardless of whether she was a boy or a girl.
2. She spent part of her childhood in the British Virgin Islands
Although proudly Jamaican, Macheri spent 10 years growing up in the British Virgin Islands before returning home with her family. They settled in St. Elizabeth, where she attended Hampton School, an experience that helped shape her appreciation for both Caribbean cultures and her Jamaican roots.
3. She fulfilled a childhood dream by living in Paris
Long before travelling became a reality, France topped Macheri’s childhood bucket list. That dream eventually came true when she moved to Paris to live, study and work while completing her master’s degree. And yes, she speaks a little French.
“Alors, oui, je parle français… juste un petit peu.”
4. Family time is non-negotiable
No matter how busy life becomes, one date is almost always protected on her calendar, “Sister Night.” Once a month, Macheri and her sisters come together to cook, share a meal, laugh and unwind over anime. It’s a simple tradition that keeps them connected despite their demanding schedules.
5. She once owned—and crashed—a superbike
Macheri has always had a soft spot for motorcycles and eventually bought herself a Honda CBR900RR. After learning to ride with help from her cousin, the bike endured more than a few tumbles, including one that required welding after an unfortunate learning experience. She no longer rides, but she still has her helmet and padded riding jacket tucked away, just in case the road calls again.
