Former Televison Jamaica (TVJ) news anchor Archibald Gordon has been revealed as the new host of the Jamaican television station’s longrunning interview programme, Profile.

Gordon received the baton from media personality Fae Ellington, who in March 2018 took charge of the programme after Ian Boyne’s sudden death in December of the previous year.

Boyne had been the host of Profile for more than 30 years.

Gordon, who was announced as the new host of Profile on TVJ’s morning programme, Smile Jamaica, is a respected newsman, who began his career on Radio Jamaica and transitioned to TV news shortly after the RJR Group brought TVJ’s operations to it Lyndhurst Road headquarters from Half-Way Tree in 2003.

After years as one of TVJ’s top newshounds, Gordon became news editor in 2010, helping TVJ expand its lead as the #1 broadcast news entity in the country.

In 2017, he transitioned out of RJRGLEANER Communications Group, which formed after RJR acquired The Gleaner Company (Media) Ltd, becoming director of marketing and communications at the Caribbean Maritime Institute.

But, as testimony to his invaluable role at TVJ, he continued anchoring Prime Time News, TVJ’s flagship news programme, for some time after his official departure from RJRGLEANER.

After this morning announcement on TVJ, several media colleagues, including Dionne Jackson Miller, congratulated Gordon on his new role.

Jackson Miller, who runs media training and public speaking master classes with Gordon, tweeted: “I am so thrilled to say that my friend and media training partner @ArchibaldKeane is the new host of #TVJProfile !!!!”

She added: “My friends’ wins are my wins. Proud and happy for you @ArchibaldKeane”

Ellington, who was present on Smile Jamaica, virtually and imaging baton in hand for the handover, later said on Twitter: “Yuh get it Archie? Hold it Archi. Stay in the lane. Run Archie! Run Archie! Run Archie!”

TVJ’s Vashan Brown, who has stepped up in recent years to fill Gordon’s shoes, tweeted: “So so happy for you @ArchibaldKeane! Can’t wait to watch your first show on Sunday.”

Sports journalist and television producer Donald Oliver said: “Couldn’t have gone to a better person. Congrats @ArchibaldKeane!”

Gordon also received special congratulations from TVJ News Editor Janella Precius, his regular co-anchor on Prime Time News.
