Chelsea are facing a charge from the Football Association after a bottle was thrown toward Aston Villa’s bench at the end of their December clash at Stamford Bridge. 

The incident came in the wake of Villa’s dramatic 2-1 comeback, sealed by two late goals from Ollie Watkins that sparked celebrations from the away side.

Reports suggest the club may not have properly controlled behaviour in the technical area after the final whistle. It remains unclear whether the bottle came from the stands or inside the technical area, but it showered Villa staff with a clear liquid, believed to be water. 

One member of Villa’s backroom team was seen pointing toward Chelsea’s bench as the team celebrated their joint record 11th consecutive win across all competitions. Chelsea is investigating the matter but has not yet issued a statement.
