Aventa Jamaica Limited has completed a three-phased relief outreach, delivering essential support to pharmacies and communities across the parishes of St Elizabeth, Westmoreland and St James, following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.

Many businesses lost inventory and equipment, and the region experienced near-total power outages that have recently been resolved. The outreach, conducted throughout November, reflects the company’s continued commitment to strengthening health care resilience and supporting frontline partners during national emergencies.

St Elizabeth Outreach – November 5

During the first leg of the initiative, Aventa Jamaica partnered with the Health 2000 (H2K) division to engage pharmacies across Santa Cruz and Black River, providing 100 Aventa care packages and medical supplies to six pharmacies.

Westmoreland Outreach – November 14

The second phase focused on delivering relief to the communities of Savanna-la-Mar and White House, both of which required urgent support. A total of 119 care packages were delivered to 11 pharmacies, providing critical relief items such as personal care essentials, hydration products, and non-perishable supplies to customers recovering from the storm.

St James Outreach – November 19

Many pharmacies in Montego Bay and the surrounding areas experienced severe flooding, with reports of up to 11 feet of water at locations such as MegaMart in Catherine Hall. This third phase extended relief to Montego Bay and surrounding areas by providing emergency supplies and 109 additional relief packages to 19 pharmacies and staff members who suffered significant flood damage, power loss and personal displacement.

Hardest hit

Aventa’s intervention came at a critical time as staff members across multiple pharmacies experienced significant personal losses, including roof damage, destroyed belongings and displacement, resulting in workforce turnout as low as 20 per cent in some establishments. Preliminary data show that St Elizabeth, Westmoreland and St James parishes were among the hardest hit, with up to 90 per cent of buildings in some communities impacted and entire towns described as “decimated”.

Aventa aimed to help pharmacies restore operations and provide health care when it is most needed. These efforts reflect Aventa’s larger mission to be the trusted distributor of high-quality pharmaceuticals and health products across Jamaica by delivering innovative solutions, personalised care and reliable service to pharmacies, doctors, hospitals, and diagnostic centres. This mandate also includes supporting health care providers and improving patient outcomes.

Aventa’s relief initiatives following Hurricane Melissa enabled pharmacies in impacted communities to continue offering essential services during a crisis.

“When disaster strikes, the continuity of healthcare becomes even more vital. Our mission is not only to supply high-quality products, but to stand with our partners and the communities they serve when they are at their most vulnerable. This relief outreach to St Elizabeth and Westmoreland is a demonstration of that commitment,” said Aventa Jamaica’s Pharmaceutical & Regulatory Manager Karen Thomas.

With over 328 care packages distributed across the western parishes, Aventa Jamaica continues to reaffirm its dedication to advancing health and enhancing lives, especially in times of crisis, and its role as a resilient partner in Jamaica’s healthcare ecosystem.
