Lobster season in Jamaica closure now in effect

Jamaica’s closed lobster season is now in effect today and will run until June 30.

During this period, anyone in possession of lobster that was fished during the open season must declare this by April 8, 2026. 

Individuals are being encouraged to submit a declaration to the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) stating the following:

  • The name, address and telephone number of the person making the declaration.
  • The quantity of spiny lobster that is in the possession of the declarant.
  • A detailed description of the spiny lobster in the possession of the declarant, specifying whether the spiny lobster is the whole lobster, the tail meat, the head, the head meat, or any other category that may be specified.
  • The location of the facility, where the spiny lobster is being stored and any other information that the NFA may require from time-to-time.

A declaration can be submitted in writing to the NFA at 2C Newport East, Kingston.
