Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton had a brief scare at Lynden Pindling International Airport in the Bahamas after police stopped and searched him over reports he was smoking marijuana on the premises.
The Bahamian-born NBA star was held for a short time while officers checked his belongings.
Authorities later confirmed that nothing illegal was found, and Ayton was released without any charges. His attorney, Devard Francis, said the player is already heading back to Los Angeles to rejoin the Los Angeles Lakers as they prepare for the second half of the NBA season.
Ayton, the former number one pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, has been a key part of the Lakers lineup this season, averaging 13.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
