Kingston College (KC) has been in the news recently for more reasons than one.

The “Famed Purples” have registered the biggest win in the schoolboy football season thus far, whipping Cumberland High 18-0 last Saturday, September 14, at Stadium East.

But the spotlight has since dimmed as the ugly issue of indiscipline has raised its head, resulting in two football players being suspended and a track athlete preparing for a long trip back home to Kenya after being expelled.

KC players Damaine “Messi” Smith and Raje Ximinez were involved in a post-match brawl after defeating José Martí High 2-0 at the National Stadium on Tuesday.

While KC Principal Dave Myrie refused to comment on the issue because the students are minors, he told Our Today, “However, wherever or whenever disciplinary breaches occur, the school will take the necessary and appropriate action to address this.”

KC’s Manning Cup Head Coach Vassell Reynolds, said fights happen all the time in the heat of moment.

“Nothing different than when two classmates fight at school. The issue is, though, it must be prevented as much as possible. So as coaches and adults, we are to provide that guidance and mentoring to prevent these things from happening,” he explained.

“As a school, we are taking a zero-tolerance [approach] to any kind of behaviour among our students which may bring the school into disrepute and hence, the boys involved will be dealt with in accordance with rules and regulations of the school, just as if it had taken place on campus,” he added.

Meanwhile, Our Today has learnt that track athlete Andrew Tanui will be returning home next week after just one year at the school for continued disciplinary infractions.

Tanui is the young brother of former KC star Aaron Tanui who is now at the University of Texas, El Paso.

Young Tanui gave KC three points at the 2024 Champs with his sixth-placed finish in the Class Three 1500m. He failed to make the 800m final.
