The Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) has extended the waiver of the $5,000 penalty charge applicable to transactions equal to and exceeding the Automated Clearing House (ACH) value threshold of one million dollars (J$1,000,000).

BOJ first announced the waiver of ACH charges for transaction breaches on 23 December 2025 in response to some deposit-taking institutions (DTIs) highlighting issues with processing Real-Time Gross Settlement transactions. The central bank transitioned to a new RTGS system on December 21, 2025, moving from the SWIFT Message Type (MT) standard to the ISO 20022 standard (MX).

This waiver, which was previously scheduled to end on Wednesday, 31 December 2025, will now remain in effect until Friday, 16 January 2026.

“The extension of the waiver has been granted to provide for continuity and stability within the national payment system, while allowing affected DTIs to ensure full resolution of internal challenges in relation to the timely crediting of some of their customers' accounts within the extended timeframe,” the BOJ stated in a release.

The central bank further clarified that ACH transaction fees charged by DTIs remain in effect.
