The Barbie doll is a toy all little girls played with, often dreaming of having a life like Barbie with Ken. Well, Barbie is no longer with Ken, she is exploring her sexuality with her girlfriend, Aimee Song.

Barbie was a fashion doll created by Ruth Handler. She was inspired by Bild Lilli, a German doll. In March 1959, American toy company, Mattel Inc, manufactured and launched the doll.

Photos from 2017 have surfaced on the Internet of Barbie and another doll, clothed in Aimee Song’s ‘Love Wins’ branded t-shirt.

HOW DID EVERYONE MISS IT?

Many supporters and collectors of the doll have been wondering how on earth they missed Barbie coming out as queer.

While Our Today and other followers on social media are wondering when exactly Barbie came out and how she copped a ‘peng ting’, Aimee Song posted a photo, confirming that relationship status on Twitter, making it official.

“I am the girlfriend,” Aimee tweeted, with a photo of herself and her doll look-alike wearing her ‘Love Wins’ t-shirts. 

For public record, however, manufacturer Mattel Inc has not officially confirmed Barbie’s sexuality.

So is she really off the market, or is Barbie aligning herself with the LGBTQ community as an ally?

It doesn’t matter, for queer kids, for straight kids, wherever you fall on the sexual spectrum, the beauty of Barbie is that she adapts, and she can be whoever you want her to be.
