It was more than just a room full of business cards and handshakes, it was a moment of clarity for a nation looking forward.

On July 15, the Sandals Grande Saint Lucian Spa & Beach resort played host to the third edition of Connect Saint Lucia Business Social, headlined by none other than acclaimed actor, entrepreneur, and cultural force Dr. Malik Yoba.

Best known for his unforgettable roles in ‘Cool Runnings‘, ‘Empire‘, and ‘Law & Order‘, Yoba’s impact goes well beyond the screen. He’s performed at Carnegie Hall, built companies across sectors, and advised major institutions on how to shape communities and not just market to them. But on that Tuesday evening in Saint Lucia, his mission was deeply personal with a focus on helping a small island think bigger. Lance Growth, the founder of Connect Saint Lucia, described the gathering as a purposeful blend of inspiration and strategy.

“This wasn’t just a networking mixer. It was about creating space for real dialogue between returning nationals, entrepreneurs, public leaders, and creatives on how to push this country forward,” Growth explained.

Yoba’s presence wasn’t simply ceremonial. He dove in. Walking the floor, he took time to engage one on one with guests, many of whom were young business owners eager to share their ideas. Instead of staying on the stage, Yoba moved through the crowd, interviewing entrepreneurs, exchanging contact information, and offering feedback rooted in decades of cross-sector experience. It’s this hands-on energy that truly sets the tone.

His keynote address explored new models of business rooted in purpose, while also sharing examples from his work with Yoba Development and Yoba Global Solutions, ventures that span real estate, media, and education across the US and abroad. But it was his personal investment in Saint Lucian stories that left the biggest impression.

Panels and workshops throughout the day featured prominent voices, including Allen Chastanet, managing director of Coco Palm Hotel, all working together to explore how Saint Lucia can expand its economy while holding fast to its unique cultural spirit.

Yoba’s visit helped elevate the event to a global stage, shining a light not only on the island’s potential but on the collective energy of its people. From conversations about youth empowerment to conversations about creative funding and innovation, the tone was clear: the world is watching, and Saint Lucia is ready.

For Lance Growth and the young team behind Connect Saint Lucia, the success of this third edition is just the beginning. Founded in 2024, the organisation is already making major progress.

Plans are underway for the fourth event later this year with a growing network of professionals ready to collaborate, build, and most importantly, connect.
