The Barita Foundation supported Play Day JA 2026 at the National Baptist Basic School in Kingston, joining national efforts to highlight the importance of play in early childhood development.
Play Day JA is a Ministry of Education-led initiative, supported by UNICEF, that promotes play as a critical component of learning, helping children build social skills, creativity, confidence, and emotional well-being. At National Baptist Basic School, the day came alive with laughter, movement, and meaningful engagement as children learned through fun, exploration, and interaction.

Representatives of the Barita Foundation participated alongside teachers and caregivers, sharing in the joy of the experience and reinforcing the value of play-based learning in shaping confident, curious young minds.
“Play is not just about fun, it is fundamental to how children learn, connect, and develop,” said Tanketa Chance-Wilson, Executive Director of the Barita Foundation. “By supporting initiatives like Play Day JA, we are investing in environments that allow children to thrive holistically, building the foundation for confident learners and well-rounded future leaders.”

The Foundation’s involvement reflects its ongoing commitment to education and early childhood development, one of its core pillars. Through partnerships with schools and national stakeholders, the Barita Foundation continues to support initiatives that strengthen learning outcomes while nurturing social and emotional growth.
The Barita Foundation commends the Ministry of Education and UNICEF for their leadership in championing play as an essential part of child development across Jamaica and remains committed to collaborating on programmes that support the nation’s children at every stage of their development.
