Atlanta Braves designated hitter Jurickson Profar is facing trouble again, a year after serving an 80-game suspension for violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Reports indicate the 33-year-old tested positive for a banned substance, making him the sixth player to receive a season-long ban under MLB’s tougher penalties for repeat offenders.

Profar’s latest suspension comes with heavy consequences. He will lose the $15 million he was set to earn in the second year of his three-year contract, miss the postseason if Atlanta qualifies, and be barred from the upcoming World Baseball Classic. He was scheduled to play for the Netherlands and was even listed in their lineup for an exhibition against the Baltimore Orioles, but was removed before the game.

While Profar has not yet addressed the new violation, he previously maintained that he would never willingly take banned substances, though he accepted MLB’s ruling last year. This latest setback threatens to overshadow the 11-year veteran’s career at a crucial point.
