OAS-sponsored workshop examines disaster risk management capacity at Caribbean ports

To equip Caribbean port managements with the necessary skills in this area, the Organization of American States (OAS), last week hosted a workshop on disaster risk management training at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

In aims to beef up the capacity of Caribbean ports to deal with disaster risk management issues, the OAS is providing funding to support what it considers an important initiative.

The OAS workshop on Improved disaster risk management for ports in the Caribbean was held from May 9 to May 12, and included representatives from 12 countries regionally.

The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), which has oversight responsibility for the development of Jamaica’s port facilities represented the island led by its chairman, Professor Gordon Shirley.
