The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) is advising the public that operations at several ITA Service Hubs (Examination Depots) have been temporarily disrupted following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

After thorough assessments, the ITA will resume services at four locations effective Monday, November 3, 2025:

  • Swallowfield Service Hub – Motor Vehicle Inspection Services only
  • Spanish Town Road Service Hub – Motor Vehicle Inspection and Driver’s Licence/Learner’s Permit Services
  • Harbour View Service Hub and Weigh Station – Motor Vehicle Inspection and Driver’s Licence/Learner’s Permit Services
  • May Pen Service Hub – Motor Vehicle Inspection and Driver’s Licence/Learner’s Permit Services

All other Service Hubs will be phased back into operation as restoration efforts progress. The hurricane resulted in significant disruptions to critical utilities and infrastructure, and the ITA is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure the safe and timely resumption of services across the island.

The Authority appreciates the public’s patience and understanding during this recovery period and encourages customers to stay tuned for further updates as additional locations reopen. Reading Time: < 1 minuteThe National Works Agency (NWA) is in the final stages of preparing a $39 million programme dedicated to drain cleaning and bushing in the Southern parishes of St. Elizabeth, Manchester and Clarendon. This initiative forms a central part of the Government of Jamaica’s (GOJ) islandwide Pre-Hurricane Mitigation Programme.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the agency is now actively engaging Members of Parliament across the parishes to finalize the programme of works. This collaborative effort is an important aspect of the programme as it ensures that the representatives are involved in the identification of some of the locations to be targeted.
