The Sygnus Group, headquartered in Kingston, Jamaica is the lead financier of the US$8 million IMCA Jamaica (Caterpillar) building projected located on  a 32,500 square feet lot located on Spanish Town Road.

The building is expected to be completed in 12 months time.

President and CEO of the Sygnus Group, Berisford Grey took the opportunity to talk about the importance of partnering with investors to spur national development. He also noted the contribution of both the real estate and construction sector during this time of the COVID pandemic.

Below are his full remarks:

I would  like to first congratulate Prime Minister Holness on his admission to the Privy Council. As our Prime Minister so eloquently coined it, today we are gathered on Jamaica’s industrial corridor on a site where construction and innovation in finance meet to deliver what will be a state-of-the-art national headquarters for IMCA JAMAICA.

As the CEO of the Sygnus Group, it is an honour for me to stand here this morning and say thank you to all those who have contributed to this project, and allowed us to achieve this milestone.

As I reflect on all the great points made today by the speakers and Sygnus own investment journey which started almost five years ago, I will leave you with two key thoughts:

Real Estate and the construction sector has proven itself once again to be most resilient and despite the impact of the pandemic will continue to play a key role in recovery, economic growth and capital preservation. Sygnus intends to continue collaborating with its clients and investors across the region to unlock value in the Real Estate Asset class.

Grey

The significance of partnership to create value and win-win solutions. The partnership between Sygnus and IMCA JAMAICA is a testament to just that. We at Sygnus are very excited about the vast opportunities local and regionally to partner with investors, governments, and other stakeholders to drive investments in public-private partnership projects, logistic infrastructure such as warehouse and industrial parks, hospitality, housing and other key areas of the economy.

Sygnus is committed to long-term partnerships, creative ideas and accessibility of flexible capital which we strongly believe will propel our region forward.

On behalf of the Sygnus Group, I’d like to thank the Most Honorable Andrew Holness, for accepting our invitation to make the keynote address this morning. As our Prime Minister mentioned, collaboration and partnership underpin the success of this project, and are integral in stimulating the continued economic growth of our country.

Angi Martinez, Dominican Republic Ambassador to Jamaica, with Grey.

Thank you also to Her Excellency Ambassador Angie Martinez, for joining us on this momentous groundbreaking as she represents the partnership not only between two great companies, but two great countries.

To the IMCA team, led by country manager, Jose Sasso, thank you for your commitment to Jamaica, for the past 12 years, and your faith in the Sygnus team on realising the vision of IMCA Jamaica.

Thanks also to JAMPRO, whose support and guidance was critical to the success: in fact I too would like to add to David’s acknowledgement of the professional synergies that made today a reality.

The Project Team who has worked acidulously for almost two years to make this development a reality. I would like to say thank you very much and well done.

As always thank you also to our partners within the media who are always so supportive of our initiatives.

And last but by no means least, thank you to the event organisers, ably led by Elle Creative for putting this event together.
