In today’s society, there’s often pressure for women to have everything figured out by the time they turn thirty—career, relationships, finances, and a perfectly mapped-out future.
But at 31, marketing professional Asha-Kai Faulkner is living proof that life doesn’t always follow a script—and that’s more than okay. She’s thriving in a career she loves, on a path she never planned, in a field she didn’t formally study. Her journey is a powerful reminder that turning thirty isn’t a deadline—it can be the very beginning of something extraordinary.
Though she pursued a Bachelor of Science in international relations with a minor in social policy and development at the University of the West Indies, Mona, her heart quietly leaned towards creativity and other people-focused pursuits. The signs were always there, clear as day. “Even back in high school during my summer jobs, I found myself drawn to marketing-related roles—anything that involved people and engagement,” Asha-Kai recalled.
Asha-Kai’s career path took a practical turn early on, leading her into customer-facing roles, including a position in the finance sector promoting digital banking channels. Ironically, it was an unintentional first step into the world of marketing. That natural pull toward the field stayed with her, eventually landing her an internship at a leading company in the utility sector. There, she steadily advanced through roles focused on engagement and internal communications. Still, it wasn’t until she turned 30 that everything truly began to realign.
“I was inspired by my passion for marketing and communications, as well as by the people around me who recognised that passion and believed it could thrive in this space,” Asha-Kai shared.
At first, she thought a move into marketing would require leaving her company. But to her surprise, the opportunity emerged internally.
“They saw the potential fit based on the direction our department was heading and how they envisioned using my skills,” she explained.
Even with strong support, the transition wasn’t without fear.
“I doubted my path for a few reasons,” Asha-Kai admitted. “One, because of the comfort I had in my previous roles. And two, I questioned whether my experience measured up to that of the people I knew I’d be working alongside.”
That wavering self-confidence didn’t disappear overnight. The technical aspects of marketing especially pushed her outside her comfort zone. “The analytics and reporting side of it? Trust me, I’m still working on that,” she said with a laugh.
Hitting this milestone had once felt overwhelming, but it turned out to be a turning point rather than a cliff. “At first, it just felt like this huge number that started with a three,” she recalled. “Now, I would tell people—especially women—that this age is really the launch pad. You’re more mature, wiser, and it’s the perfect time to go after what you want.”
As her career evolved, so did her passion for content creation. She started sharing snapshots of her life—food, travel, and events she attended—little moments that sparked joy. In 2024, that passion led her to become part of the Red Stripe Flavour squad.

“Being selected felt like being seen,” she said. “Red Stripe is a brand I’ve always admired, so it was an honour.” The experience affirmed a growing belief: content creation isn’t limited by age or background. “It’s not just a young person’s game. If you have something to share—whether you’re 18 or 80—you can do it.”
Today, Asha-Kai beams with pride at her growing contributions to her company’s marketing campaigns, videos, and public-facing work. It’s a future she couldn’t have imagined five years ago—but now, it feels like exactly where she’s meant to be.
To her 25-year-old self, she’d offer this: “Do it now. Don’t over-plan. Don’t wait until you’re ready. Just start.”
Asha-Kai’s journey is a powerful reminder that life doesn’t stop at 30. With the right mindset and support, it might just be when it truly begins.
