Yves Bissouma has been left out of the Tottenham squad for the UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain after once again showing up late, a recurring issue that has finally worn thin.
Head coach Thomas Frank made the call to drop the midfielder. The Mali international has previously been criticised for his timekeeping, with former managers Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou both having run-ins with him. Postecoglou even left him out of the squad early last season after footage emerged of Bissouma inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon.
Bissouma’s absence adds to Tottenham’s selection challenges against a strong PSG side. However, there was some positive news: striker Dominic Solanke is back in contention after recovering from an ankle injury that kept him out of much of pre-season. Left back Destiny Udogie, though, is still not quite ready to return but is edging closer to full fitness.
Spurs go into the Super Cup riding high after their Europa League triumph over Manchester United in May. But they’ll face a formidable PSG team fresh off a dominant 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
