Rising stars Britany Anderson and Christopher Taylor were among the winners at the Millrose Games held at the Amory in New York on Saturday (January 29). However, Briana Williams failed to deliver and finished fourth in the 60m-dash won by the USA’s Aleia Hobbs.

The 21-year-old Anderson, a finalist in the 100m hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics last year, pulled off a stunning victory over a stacked field, winning in a personal best 7.91 seconds over Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas who clocked a season-best 7.95s for second place.

Tonea Marshall was third in 7.99s.

World record-holder Kendra Harrison clocked 8.00s for fourth place while American Olympians Gabbi Cunningham and Anna Cockrell were fifth and sixth, respectively in 8.00s and 8.02s, respectively.

Devon Allen, the 2021 Diamond League sprint hurdles champion, won the men’s equivalent in a world-leading 7.51s lover compatriot and fellow Olympian Daniel Roberts, who took second place in 7.53s. Shane Brathwaite of Barbados was third in a season-best 7.67s.

Taylor, a finalist in the 400m at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan, held off a strong challenge from American Vernon Norwood to win the event in 46.38s. Norwood clocked 46.45s while 800m runner Donovan Brazier, returning from a leg fracture, was third in 46.55s.

The USA’s Wadeline Jonathas won the women’s race in 52.51s over compatriot Jessica Beard (52.95s). The pair were well clear of Jamaica’s Tovea Jenkins, who ran 54.14s for third with her compatriot Roneisha McGregor finishing fourth in 54.24s.

Much was expected of Williams at Millrose after she opened her season in Louisiana two weeks ago equally her lifetime best of 7.18s. She had said then that she hadn’t yet begun her speed work and was anticipating a much faster time in New York on Saturday.

However, it was not to be as she was outpaced to the line by Hobbs (7.11s), Mikiah Brisco, who ran a season-best 7.15s and high schooler Shawnti Jackson, who clocked a personal best and American high school record of 7.18s.
