The speculation is over!
Fresh off her golden-boot-winning final season at French Women Division 1 club Bordeaux, Jamaica’s Khadija Shaw has signed a three-year deal with English club Manchester City Women. The deal is subject to the player receiving a work permit and international clearance.
The club announced the arrival of the Jamaican goal-scoring machine this morning.
“We are delighted to announce we have signed Jamaican forward, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw on a three-year contract. Welcome to City, Khadija,” Manchester City announced on Twitter.
Shaw, 24, had taken some time off after scoring 22 goals while leading Bordeaux to a third-place finish and a place in next season’s Champions League. She missed Jamaica’s two matches against Nigeria and the USA, respectively in last week’s Summer Series that ended for the Jamaicans with the Reggae Girlz getting a 4-0 drubbing from the world champions on Sunday.
She told the Jamaica Football Federation that she needed the break to recover from an intense season in France and to ponder her professional future. A week ago, Shaw gave the clearest sign that she was leaving France with a post on Instagram thanking the team and fans for her time there.
“It feels amazing to be a Manchester City player. I chose this club because I want to be a part of the environment, the culture and to play for this amazing team.”

However, there was no declaration of where she was headed, despite reports that she was nearing a deal with Manchester City. Following this morning’s announcement by the club, Shaw said she was elated joining the English side.
“It feels amazing to be a Manchester City player. I chose this club because I want to be a part of the environment, the culture and to play for this amazing team,” she said.
“I want to be tested and there is so much experience in the team here, so I know I will learn a lot from everybody around me. I grew up as a City fan, and I even have some family members who live in Manchester. When I told them about my move, they were so happy and excited.”
Head coach Gareth Taylor was equally delighted to have Shaw in his squad.
“She’s enjoyed a successful couple of years in France with Bordeaux and the fact that she finished as the league’s top scorer this past campaign speaks volumes about the calibre of player that she is,” he said. “Her form on the international stage is incredibly impressive too and we’re very much looking forward to working with her over the coming seasons.
