American conservative commentator Candace Owens and hip hop star Cardi B have been engaged in a social media feud this week after Owens criticism of the rapper’s performance of WAP at the 2021 Grammy Awards on Wednesday (March 16).

Owens had said on Fox News that the performance by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion was a ‘corrosion’ and ‘destruction’ of American values.

“This seems like an attack on American values, American traditions, and you’re actually actively trying to make children aspire to things that are grotesque,” Owens said.

“This is not the patriarchy that’s keeping young woman down. It’s displays like this, displays of blatant nudity and sexualisation that are keeping women down in this society.”

Many thought Cardi B would have immediately insulted Owens but, instead, she sarcastically expressed gratitude to the political commentator while her fans did the dirty and ‘dragged’ Owens.

Owens, who called Cardi B’s behaviour a ‘cancer cell’ on American culture, reacting to the rapper’s ‘gratitude’, said: “Just @ me next time, directly.”

Cardi B indeed tweeted directly at Owens and so the online war began.

Owens responses came as a shock to fans of the rapper as she had always appeared to be be a supporter, even as far back as 2011 when Cardi B was a member of the cast of reality show, Love and Hip-Hop.

Hosts of E! News Daily Pop, Justin Sylvester, Carissa Culiner, alongside special guest Hayley Duff also shared comments on the WAP performance, saying it was normal.

“I have seen Diana Ross’ titties on live tv, this is nothing,” said Sylvester, adding that the directors of the Grammy’s knew exactly what they were doing when they scheduled the performance.

Hayley Duff added that she wouldn’t let her daughter watch the WAP performance, only Taylor Swifts’, quickly adding that she too had no worries about the performance, agreeing with Sylvester that the performance was ‘PG-13-ish’.

Culiner too added her opinion, stating that all the performances were good but the WAP performance was that one that was over the top and had people talking.

“A lot of the artistes were great, but you wouldn’t necessarily rave about it the next day, this is the one that gets people talking, and if you don’t have something like that in your show, what’s the point of having a show?” Culiner questioned.
