The 22-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz took down the Serb Novak Djokovic 2-6,6-2,6-3, 7-5 to win the Australian Open’s men title in Melbourne.
He created history by becoming the youngest man to win all four Grand Slams.
After defeating the Italian Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, many hoped Djokovic would go on to win his 25th Grand Slam title and become the oldest man to win a major.
At the conclusion of the first set, there was hope that Djokovic could pull off this huge ask and roll back the years. But Alcaraz was just too good hat itting with depth and precision.
Taking down Sinner, then Alcaraz was always going to be a steep mountain to climb with Djokovic fast approaching his 39th birthday.

This win now means Alcaraz has bagged seven Grand Slam titles and is on his way to tennis immortality.
After the match, which saw Alcaraz hailed as a conquering hero, Djokovic said; “ I remain disappointed with the way I felt in the second and third sets after an incredible start.
“I never like to talk about things I go through physically or health-wise because it’s going to come across as I’m looking for excuses and taking away the credit of the winner, so it’s not going to change this time.
“I’m just going to congratulate Carlos. He was the deserved winner.
“ He’s only 22, I mean…it’s unbelievable. In his case everything is possible. Then there’s Sinner. The two them are going to be fighting for the biggest titles and the youngsters like myself are going to try to catch up.”
Of Djokovic and what the future holds, Alcaraz commented: “ He comes and plays such great tennis, beating Jannikl in the semi-final and here in the final played such great tennis. So it’s unbelievable what he is doing.
“What he is putting his body and mind through into playing a final of a Grand Slam again, going against you know, every person saying that he was not going to play another Grand Slam final or he was not going to beat Jannik or myself.
“He is going to play in a Grand Slam final again. It depends on how physically able he is or how demanding physically the tournament is for him. But I think he’s ready to keep winning the big tournaments on the tour.”
