At Carreras, our people are our strength, and we remain steadfast in our belief that when our employees live well, we all thrive.
As part of our ongoing commitment to employee wellness, balance, and growth, we are proud to announce a series of enhancements to our leave policies. These changes are more than just benefits; they are a reflection of our “Live Well” mission in action.
We are pleased to announce a bold step forward
Maternity Leave has been extended from 4 months to 6 months, giving new mothers more time to heal, bond, and transition into motherhood without compromise.
According to Daidrey Miller, HR Business Partner at Carreras, “We recognise that the early months of parenting are deeply personal, physically demanding, and emotionally transformative. Extending our maternity leave to 6 months places Carreras among the few companies in Jamaica offering one of the most progressive parental benefits in the country. This move is more than policy; it is a statement.”
“This enhancement reflects our belief that parenthood should not come at the cost of professional growth, and that creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace begins with action,” Miller said.
Carreras also offers additional leave enhancements under our Live Well agenda, which focuses primarily on social, emotional, physical and financial well-being for our team members:
Vacation Leave has been expanded by up to five additional days, now ranging from 15 to 20 days annually, giving employees more time to recharge and reconnect.
Paternity Leave has been doubled from 5 to 10 days, encouraging shared parenting and family bonding.
Compassionate Leave has also been extended from 3 to 5 days, with special provisions for overseas travel, ensuring employees have more time to navigate loss and care for loved ones.
The Company has introduced three new benefits
- Study and Examination Leave: 7 days annually, supporting professional and academic growth to complement our employee Learning and Development policy.
- Birthday Leave: 1 additional day off for employees to celebrate on their birthdays.
- Casual Leave: 6 days per year for life’s unexpected moments.
Ivan Hurtado, Managing Director, noted that “These enhanced policies are designed to give our employees the time, space, and support they need to thrive personally and professionally. It is one more step in building a culture where wellness is not just encouraged but enabled.”
“At Carreras, we don’t just say ‘Live Well’—we mean it. These expanded benefits reflect our belief that caring for our people is the foundation for everything we do.” Hurtado said.
