The Ceremonial Opening of Parliament gets underway this Thursday, February 12, signalling the start of the 2026/2027 legislative year.

This is a significant event in Jamaica’s governance landscape in which Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen, will deliver the Throne Speech at a Joint Sitting of the Parliament at Gordon House, the seat of Jamaica’s legislature, at 81 Duke Street, Kingston, starting at 11:00 am.

The Throne Speech will outline the Government’s legislative and spending agenda for the upcoming parliamentary year. The proceedings will also feature the formal arrival of state officials, members of both Houses of Parliament, and other dignitaries, and will include the traditional inspection of the Guard of Honour.

After the Ceremony, the House of Representatives will convene at 2:00 pm for the tabling of the 2026/2027 Estimates of Expenditure, commonly referred as the National Budget, detailing the budgetary allocations and spending plans for the various Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The proceedings will be broadcast live via the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ), the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), and other media platforms.
