Champion Cavalier cruising in Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League

Defending champion Cavalier SC continued their dominant form dispatching the hapless Dunbeholden FC 4-1 and maintaining their lead atop of the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League.

Goals by Shaquille Allen (31st), Christopher Ainsworth (45th), Jalmaro Calvin (52nd) and Odane Wilberforce (88th) propelled Cavalier to their third win from four games and onto 10 points.

Dayshaneil Russell had given Dunbeholden a fifth-minute lead, but they succumbed to their third consecutive defeat to be rooted to the bottom of the 14-team league pointless.

In the marquee match of the round, Montego Bay United clipped Arnett Gardens 1-0 courtesy of an Owen Gordon strike in the 39th minute.

It was Montego Bay’s third win from four games and they remained in second spot on nine points while Arnett Gardens are seventh on four points from three games after suffering their first defeat of the season.

The improving Harbour View climbed into third spot on seven points following their 1-1 draw Humble Lion at the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon.

In form Oquassa Chong gave the Stars of the East a 24th-minute lead but veteran Andre Clennon earned a share of the points for Humble Lion scoring in minute 66. Humble Lion are eighth with four points.

At the Ferdie Neita Park, home team Portmore United blanked Vere Phoenix United 2-0 to be in fifth spot on six points from their four games. Junior Grizelle (36th) and Shacquwelle Henry (90+1) got the goals.

Vere’s poor start to the season continued despite having the services of the island’s top two schoolboy coaches from last season in Lenny Hyde (Clarendon College) and Craig Butler (Mona High). The Clarendon-based outfit are sitting in ninth spot on four points.

Former champion Mount Pleasant playing just their second game of the season because of International Club engagements, whipped new boys Racing United 4-0 at the Catherine Hall Complex in St James.

Gadial Irving opened the floodgate in minute 23 before Devonte Campbell doubled the advantage in the 45th minute. Daniel Green then made the game safe scoring in the 72nd minute and Shande James put the icing on the cake in the 84th minute.

The Theodore Whitmore-coach team was winning their second match from just two games and are up to fourth with six points. The promoted Racing are 10th with four points from four games.

At the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Molynes United dismissed Chapelton Maroons 4-0 for their first win of the season.

A double strike by Mchael Edwards in the 52nd and 70th minute laid the foundation as Jevaughn Brown opened the scoring in the 39th and Tarij Andrew sealed the victory in minute 85. They are 11th on three points while Chapelton Maroon are sitting in 12th spot also on three points.

In the second game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Waterhouse FC edged Tivoli Gardens 1-0 courtesy of an Atapharoy Bygrave goal in the 39th minute.

The Drewsland-based team are sixth with six points from three games while Tivoli Gardens are 13th with one point from their three games.
