Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Beijing on Friday, April 26.

Both countries reached a five-point consensus to continue to work hard to stabilise and develop China-U.S. relations, maintain high-level exchanges and contacts, hold intergovernmental dialogue on artificial intelligence (AI), expand cultural and interpersonal student exchanges between the two countries and maintain consultations on international and regional hotspot issues while strengthening communications.

China and the United States (U.S.) have made positive progress in maintaining dialogue and cooperation among other fields since the meeting between both presidents in San Francisco last year.

China has committed to its part in restoring communication channels between its military and the US military to promote more collaboration on solving issues around international drug control, climate change and AI. China will also be sending its special envoy for climate change Liu Zhenmin to visit the United States.

The two countries have agreed to further dialogue on Asia-Pacific and China-U.S. maritime affairs and to work together to ensure a successful staging of the 14th China-U.S. Tourism Leadership Summit in Xi’an, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, next month.
