Clean-up crews from the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Authority (KSAMC) today (May 8) started work on getting back the Oxford Mall Arcade, more popularly known as ‘Ray Ray Ground’ up and running again after a fifth fire razed the facility since 2022 earlier this week.

When Our Today arrived on the scene, we saw work crews and machinery removing charred debris from the location, situated between West and Pechon streets in the bustling downtown market district.

A front-end loader was observed packing debris from the fire onto a truck, which left some 200 vendors with nursing millions of dollars in losses.

Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby, who toured the market yesterday, hours after the fire broke out late Monday night, expressed concern for the displaced vendors affected, whilst conveying his sympathies for those whose stalls and goods were completely destroyed in the blaze.

He promised that the KSAMC would assist with clean-up operations, which is now being done.

Outlining that the market is a means of livelihood for many, the KSAMC chairman used the opportunity to urge vendors to form an association among themselves to “advocate on their behalf and to air their concerns in a formal and organised way.”
